MY TOP 5

Ryan Joseph Giggs
D.O.B: 29th November 1973
Nationality: GB/ Wales
City of Birth: Cardiff, Wales
Weight: 68Kg/10st 10lb
Height: 180cm/5ft 11in
Position: Midfield/winger
Debut date: 02 March 1991
The player that caught my eyes when i just started following united back in 1992-93.
I saw him doing his dribble past two or three players against Arsenal if im not mistaken and i asked dad,
who is he to which dad told me he is Giggs. Never knew his full name until i heard the commentator one day called him Ryan Giggs.
Eversince then, i will always look out for him and look forward to see him in every matches. What do i know, I only realized lately
that ive been doing that for 15 years or so now!
I fear for the day he would called it quits. Being soooo used to watching him every week for a long time,
his sudden disappearance will be a HUGE blow to me. I dont even have to imagine that to know how i would feel, i can actually feel it now everytime when i talk about it.
Every new season, as much as i am looking forward to a new adventure, a little part of me will have the thought will this be his last season? I know players come and go, even
Sir Alex Ferguson will leave us one day too (that will be a bigger heartbreak thou) but its just hard to take.
Witnessing his development, from being a magnificent winger to a stand in central midfielder as age catches up. 11 Premiership Medals, 2 European Cups and many many more
accolades, how can anyone not make him an idol? And all these he achieved while playing for the only one club! And no, no red card as well! I dont care if people called me bias but he dont deserved any criticism
no matter how bad he played because as much as i can recall, he did well many more times than he played badly these past years, so that evens it out.

Paul Aaron Scholes
D.O.B: 16 November 1974
Place of Birth: Salford, England
Weight: 11st 9lbs
Height: 5'7
Position: Midfield
Debut date:21 Sep 1994
The second runner-up. If Im honest, i love him as much as Giggsy and despite his tackles, i love everything about him.
Not only is he a great player on the pitch, in fact no doubt one of the best midfielder England ever produce, and he topped it off with a great character as well.
Perhaps not many journalist would agree with that but personally i think, thats how footballers should be. You do your talking on the pitch not anywhere off it, leave that
to the manager or even the coach. Whats the use of all these interview anyway when the question that often been asked is How do you feel? What do you think? etc, etc, whoever is going to believe
that whatever the players said is genuinely what they think?
I didnt talk much about Scholes but thats only because he didnt talk much as well and i respect him for that because all along I have the thinking that he doesnt like being in the limelight which probably is true.
But that doesnt mean he didnt hold a big part in my life supporting united. The best midfielder that ive seen playing for united and still do too. Like Giggsy, i hate to think about the day he decided to hang up his boots. A sure thing a player like him is very hard to replace, his vision, his passes, his crossing and most of all his creativity is second to none and that doesnt include his loyalty yet. If there is anyone that fits the word underated perfectly,
it would be him, Paul Scholes. How the hell does he not win any personal award just yet? This is just not fair.

Nemanja Vidic
D.O.B: 21 Oct 1981
Place of Birth: Uzice, Serbia
Weight: 13st 0lbs
Height: 6'2
Position: Defence
Debut date: 25 Jan 2006
He rocks! Everytime i think of Vidic, its kind of funny and it remind me never to doubt Sir Alex & his gang ability to spot talent. Well its always
easier to spot talent but difficult to groom that talent but with Vidic, i dont think the gaffer had a lot of problem. Within his stay in Manchester,
he had already surpassed Rio in being the best CD in the premiership and together they make a perfect item. Not only he is rock solid at the back but he can
score goals too. A complete package of what we really need and its not easy not to like him. Another priceless asset we have that i hope we dont let go.

Wayne Mark Rooney
D.O.B:24 Oct 1985
Place of Birth:Croxteth, Liverpool
Weight:12st 5lbs
Height:5'10
Position:Forward
Debut date:28 Sep 2004
Hah! So where do i start??
25/08/2005 - Manchester United confirm they have made an offer to Everton for striker Wayne Rooney.
Pissed off! No way Jose i want a him in the team just no! I dont like the fact that he is a scouser, and his
famous tagline "Once a Blue, always a blue" always make me think that he wouldnt want to be with us.
Guess what?? Im sooooo damn wrong of course. And the irony, he happens to be if not the most, one of the dedicated
players we have in the team. People always talk of his temper and tantrums but to me thats what make him special. Just
as long as it didnt affect us in anyway of course.
Also i like how he go about doing his thing without really that much
HU-HA and playing for Manchester United didnt make him big headed in anyway at all. His passion for football and for united
can be seen even on the pitch. I really have very high hopes on him and in him i was actually hoping to see another Ryan or Scholes
like players, someone who will end his united career here with us but as much faith i have, ive learned not many of today's player
can do that so we'll see.

John O'Shea
D.O.B:30 Apr 1981
City of Birth:Waterford, Ireland
Weight:11st 11lbs
Height:6'3
Position:All Over
Debut date:13 Oct 1999
He might not be the best player on the field but no doubt his existence is one that i will appreciate for a long time. People talk about Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and
and Gary Neville about loyalty and its always easier to brush player like Sheasy but for me, his willingness and his sacrifice into becoming a versatile player for us is enough
to see how much loyalty he have for the club.To add to that the amount of criticism he gets is beyond words and its a shame really seeing how we love to have a loyal player in the club but
yet when we see one we didnt tend to acknowledge it. Regardless how he perform, he will always be in that soft spot in my heart. It is definitely not easy to perform consistently well for all matches
when your playing in different position each game but atleast he tried.
Nudge me!

An Armchair fan point of view

"Go and support your local team"."You're only a glory hunter"."..... so how often do you go to Old Trafford?"" You're only watched united because of Ronaldo/Beckham"These are some of the most famous quotes that Ive come across many times during my time following united. The thing i noticed is, these kind of quotes wasn't always directed to the rest of the world but Asians particularly and frankly i wonder why? Im not going to deny that even thou im kind of used to these kind of remark, im surprised that it still offended me in a way or another.
See the thing is, ive always respected and admire these local fans whom week in and week out being able to watch united live and cheering them on. I dont have one bad thing to say about them because unlike them, i cant cheer the team on and even if i do, not like they can hear me and thats what I regretted the most. These people dont have to remind me where I stand cause I've always bear that in mind no matter what I do for united is far from what the local fans did.
The question is why was it wrong for people like me to like united and to want to see them be the greatest club ever no matter where we are from? I hated to be in the middle of the debate between match goers and oversea fans if i can be honest just because I know i will lose based on contribution alone but hey, that really doesnt mean we didnt contribute at all.
Watching united at Old Trafford has always been a dream. Always, and Ive yet to know when will that time be. Always been so closed to going but everytime, something came out of nowhere and once again im stuck infront of the tv screen. Apart from the height phobia i had that need alot of encouragement for me to board that plane, money is another factor that I often have problem with.
The living expenses here in Singapore is already as difficult as it is out of what i get every month. I can actually just put aside a hundred dollar for extras after deducting bills and other expenses.
And after calculating, I needed atleast S$5, 000 (2,123.99 pounds) for a 3 days 2 night visit to Manchester inclusive of one match day ticket and two way flight tix. See the thing is, the journey itself will take about one whole day so a three days 2 nights stay is inapplicable so i reckon a week stay is more appropriate which will of course cost more.
If every month i can only put aside a hundred dollars, that will take me about 4 years plus to actually meet the minimum amount! (of course this doesnt include bonuses and all or i reckon will be lesser than 4 yrs or so) . Thats how long ive already saved up but when im close to going last year, something happen to the family and so i think the money is better off used for it. I will never ever put my dream ahead of my family no matter what especially my parents just because i owe them my lifetime and its not really difficult to make that decision even thou i have to admit, im a bit sad to once again having to postpone the plan.
At times I did ask myself, why do I bother? Why do I have so much passion for a team that is nowhere near me? But no matter how I asked myself, I cant find the answer. I ended up blaming the tv provider for showing the premier league telecast over here in Singapore. If they didnt, I wouldnt have watched and know that Manchester United actually existed.
The thing I do for united is insanely stupid really. Everytime I walk outside and I saw a fella united fan wearing a united shirt, I will automatically smile at them. Everytime I saw a shop that sell United merchandise, I will never fail to stop but i didnt always buy thou what more the fake ones but somehow I enjoyed looking at them lol. Most of my close friends know that I only go clubbing if they are going to devil's bar and nowhere else. Then I will try as much as I could not to miss any united matches and if I did, a strange feeling of pissed off will overcome me and it could last until the next match no matter what the result is. Its funny really how friends of mine will ask every week what day will man utd match be in order to plan out an outing just because they know too well that I wont be going out on matchday. That doesnt include the bad attitude I have when united lost or the many times I skipped work after a late champions league match or many more habits that only united can make me do.
I remember very well there's a time when I lose my job because of always coming to work late after a late match or skip work after a defeat. And the best thing is the supervisor were actually saying to me that it would be better if I can find a job at Old Trafford LOL! Sarcasm at his best eh?? Whatever..but i never regretted because it taught me now to plan my time wisely whenever there is any late united match.
Anyway, despite all of the above, I very well know it cant be compared to the amount of money the local fans spend on a season ticket to watch united. It cant make up to the lost of voice cheering united on or the amount of wasted time waiting in the traffic on matchday for them. Also the cost of the journey for following united around Europe but being so far away, people like me can only do so much. I bet there are many other united fans around the world who has their fair share of things they do for united but like me, this part of our contribution is often not looked at no matter how huge or little it is. As long as we have that asian name, that is more than enough to made fun of us and to label us as a glory hunter. Who cares about what we feel when the main important thing is we are not a match goers?
If I can vowed, I would. I can infact guarantee that deep inside, there is nothing much between us, local or foreigner and that we shared the same amount of love for united and we enjoyed watching the football played by united. What important is, we want the club to be successful so why should anything else matter?
